Lone Star Roundup 2027 — 1,200K
The Lone Star Roundup 2027 1,200K invites you to challenge yourself while exploring approximately 750 miles of North Texas. The event begins Thursday, April 15, 2027, in Waxahachie, Texas.
The Roundup is a great first 1,200K for riders who are a little leery of being stranded more than 100 miles from a hotel. Designed as an unpretentious, low-cost randonneuring event, the 1,200K allows cyclists to cover the distance with a minimal investment.
The route consists of four loops, all based out of a central hotel in Waxahachie, so there is no need for drop bags. Waxahachie is located just south of Dallas along Interstate 35, making it a convenient hub for the event.
The Route
There are no major climbs on the route. The elevation gain comes primarily from relatively short, rolling hills. Wind will frequently be a bigger factor than climbing.
Multiple Distance Options
In addition to the 1,200K, an ACP 1,000K will start at the same time and follow Days 1–3 of the 1,200K route, with minor adjustments as needed to meet the required distance.
ACP routes of 200K, 300K, 400K, and 600K, as well as a 100K, will also be available.
Each day of the 1,200K will be available as an individual brevet as well. This provides some flexibility: if a mechanical issue or other problem prevents you from completing one day, you can still ride the following day and earn additional RUSA credit.
Likewise, if you DNF the 1,200K early, you don’t have to cut your vacation short. You can continue riding the remaining days and collecting RUSA Ks.
Self-Supported Randonneuring
Organization of the 1,200K is similar to our local brevets. In the spirit of randonneuring, riders are expected to be self-sufficient. There will be no SAG or mechanic support.
Control and supply points are located at local convenience stores and restaurants and are spaced reasonably close together along the route.
Riders are welcome to ride the 1,200K straight through if they choose, but straight-through riding is discouraged. Many of the controls used on the route are not open 24 hours, and riders following a schedule other than the standard four-day format may encounter long stretches of route without services during late-night hours.
Practical Information
Ride Fee: The $75/$100 ride fee covers the event itself; lodging and transportation are not included. Riders are responsible for making their own hotel reservations and travel arrangements.
The ride fee for the 1,200K and 1,000K is $75 until January 1, 2027, after which it increases to $100.
Your ride fee includes:
-
Brevet card
-
Cue sheet
-
Finisher’s medal
-
Food and beverages at the finish
An event jersey will also be available for purchase directly from Voler.
Rider Limit: There is no rider limit for the event; however, the Host Hotel has a limited number of rooms. Riders are encouraged to make hotel reservations early.
Services: Waxahachie has numerous restaurants, convenience stores, and grocery stores. Riders are encouraged to stock their hotel rooms with food and supplies needed for overnight stays. A Walmart is within walking distance of the hotel. All Host Hotel rooms have a refrigerator and microwave.
Roads: As currently planned, all roads on the route are paved. However, temporary road construction or last-minute detours may result in a limited amount of gravel riding, so riders should be prepared for varying road conditions.
Some county roads, while paved, may be somewhat rough. Texas is also well known for chip-seal (tar-and-chip) pavement, with surfaces ranging from smooth to rough to very rough. Wider tires, lower tire pressures, and bikes chosen for comfort rather than outright speed can make a significant difference on these roads. We have made every effort to minimize the amount of chip seal on the route.
Gear: Riders should be prepared for changing weather conditions. We recommend having items such as rain gear, extra clothing, and other weather-appropriate gear available in your hotel room or on your bike as needed. It is impossible to predict what the weather will bring.
Night Gear: All riders are required to have:
-
A working headlight and a spare headlight (the spare does not need to be mounted)
-
A working taillight and a spare taillight
-
Reflective gear, including a reflective jersey and ankle bands
See the RUSA website for recommendations on reflective gear.
Cell Phone Service: Cell phone and data service is available along most of the route, but coverage may not be available in all locations. Riders should not rely solely on cell phone service for communication or navigation.
Volunteers: Lone Star Randonneurs does not plan to have volunteers stationed along the route. The event host will also be riding and will be available at the start to distribute paperwork.
Host Hotel:
La Quinta
311 Stadium Drive
Waxahachie, TX
(972) 362-5724
Once your ride payment has been received, you will receive a hotel discount code.
Ride Start: All brevets will start at the La Quinta in Waxahachie, TX.
Transportation: Riders are responsible for arranging their own transportation. The nearest major airports are Dallas Love Field, approximately 60 miles from Waxahachie, and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), approximately 70 miles away. Uber, Lyft, taxi, and rental cars are all possible transportation options.
Bike Shops & Mechanics: Numerous bike shops are available in Dallas and the surrounding suburbs. Riders should plan ahead for any bike-related needs and should not expect on-route mechanical support.
